The Little Bastion Restaurant offers guests a feast of the senses. Accommodating a total of around 100 diners, the intimate atmosphere allows for a soft and warm feeling, leaving guests wanting to explore the intensity of flavours presented in each of the dishes on offer.
Drawing on its history, the restaurants’ gastronomical concept takes on the vast history of the Maltese Islands and takes you on a culinary journey across the world.
The menu, offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner includes contemporary Mediterranean dishes with a local touch and only using the finest local and seasonal produce and ingredients.
Dining al fresco is definitely the order of the day, especially in the warmer months, when the imposing bastions, the fortified city of Birgu, and the spectacular harbour are illuminated by traditional Festa firework displays. Johann Costa, the new chef at The Little Bastion, has always had a deep passion for food and cooking. Growing up, he often helped his mother prepare family meals, especially for Sunday lunch. This early exposure to the culinary world, coupled with his admiration for his chef uncle, inspired Johann to pursue a career in the culinary arts. He honed his skills at the Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta, earning a City & Guilds Diploma, and gained extensive experience working in various restaurants during and after his studies.
As you decide to move into the dining room, you will immediately be transported back in time. The restaurant, which is inside the bastion which used to protect Senglea from invaders is decorated in beautiful Mediterranean colours.

The beautiful space at The Little Bastion offers a carefully-curated vibe that’s playful, but elevated. With an an outside terrace, summer dining under the stars is particularly special, while the indoors area offers more of a lounge feel. Every dining table on the terrace boasts the stunning view of the Grand Harbour and the town of Birgu shimmering in the distance. The restaurant can be rented out either fully exclusively or else a small area can be done up to your liking. The first room will be able to fit up to 30 guests, whilst the second room a total of 20 people. The Little Bastion also offers stand-up receptions for up to 50 people and the set menus have been carefully designed to fit any event.

If you’re cruising in the Mediterranean and happen to drop your anchor in the beautiful Maltese Grand Harbour, you can rest assured that you will enjoy some of the best cuisine on offer. The Little Bastion Restaurant can create a special dinner with the freshest and most delicious ingredients, for you to enjoy on your yacht. You can taste specialties like grilled octopus or tuna tartare, and make sure you also order a local wine to go with your dinner under the stars.
Breakfast is served daily from 7.30 am to 10.30 am.
Happy hour takes place from Wednesday to Sunday between 5.00 pm – 7 pm, but from 3.00 pm on Sundays.
Dinner is served on Wednesday and Sunday from 6.30 pm with the last seating at 10.30 pm, closing time by 11.30 pm.
